About Pantoprazole

What it is for

Pantoprazole is used to treat duodenal and gastric ulcers, Zollinger-Ellison syndrome, and reflux esophagitis. It is also used in combination therapy to eradicate Helicobacter pylori bacteria.

How it works

Pantoprazole belongs to a class of drugs called proton pump inhibitors (PPIs). It works by irreversibly binding to the H+/K+-ATPase enzyme system in the stomach's parietal cells. By blocking this 'proton pump,' it prevents the final step of acid production, thereby reducing stomach acidity to allow healing of ulcers and inflammation.
